Mountaineers from St-Petersburg win the Russian championship in Karachayevo-Cherkessia

The Russian championship on mountain climbing has ended in Karachayevo-Cherkessia. During two weeks, 26 teams competed in fast climbing the peaks of the Karachayevo district. The sportsmen from St-Petersburg were the best ones.

"Petersburg sportsmen Igor Viskov and Andrei Nefedov have shown wonders in climbing. They climbed so fast spectators became breathless, while the international category referies gave the sportsmen from the banks of the Neva River the highest scores", reported representatives of the administration of Karachayevo district,  Karachayevo-Cherkessia, to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Other teams from St-Petersburg are among prise-winners, too. They won the second place in the Russian championship. In various nominations, mountaineers from Petersburg won the golden medals of the CIS Cup which was also held there.

A separate championship was held for women in the Karachayevo district, where mountaineers from St-Petersburg won the second place. The strongest team was the combined "Moscow-Krasnoyarsk" team. They prooved that mountains yield not only to men. However, the competition could not avoid accidents: a representative of the team, while climbing the Dalar mountain, fell and injured her spine. At the moment, she is treated at the republican hospital of  Karachayevo-Cherkessia.
