The court releases Elista mayor Radiy Burulov from custody

Today, the Supreme Court of Kalmykia has overruled the decision of Elista city court to arrest Elista mayor Radiy Burulov and released him from custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that, following his release, Radiy Burulov has reminded the journalists who came to meet him on the fact that, even last spring when the criminal case was initiated, he stated that "he believes in the supremacy of justice ".

"It is clear that we are going to meet in the court room more than once," said Burulov, "but I am sure that, eventually, everyone will see where the truth is ".

Relatives, colleagues and journalists came to meet him near the pre-trial prison building. The mayor looks unwell, he leans on his walking stick when walking. Information on the fact that he suffered from stenocardia and an acute heart attack was voiced during the court panel session. However, judging from his words, he is still in a fighting spirit.

"The defense lawyers have submitted documents to the effect that Burulov was ill and never violated his undertaking not to leave since the investigating officer was informed about all his movements ", said Natalia Arayeva, court press-secretary, as cited by the RIA "Novosti".

Additionally, according to her, the Burulov's constitutional right to defense has been violated. "Both Burulov's lawyers have submitted certificates to the effect that one is on leave and the other is ill. However, a duty lawyer has been appointed for Burulov, which violates his right to defense", explained the press-secretary.

The Supreme Court has accepted the defense arguments and overruled the Elista court decision.
