PACE Chairman does not trust the commission on investigating March events in Armenia

Lluis Maria de Puig, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), believes that the temporary parliamentary commission created for investigation of the events on March 1-2 in the capital of Armenia "does not inspire much trust." Mr de Puig told about it during his visit to Yerevan, according to Armenian Ombudsman Armen Arutyunyan.

"He said directly that the authority that the Parliament has today does not inspire any trust as to the commission, even if they do their work properly," the Ombudsman said to journalists.

Mr Arutyunyan said that the main topic of his conversation with Lluis Maria de Puig was the activity of the temporary parliamentary commission set up to investigate the events on March 1-2 in Yerevan and the problems of the persons currently in custody.

"I should note that his approaches and position were rather tough," said the Ombudsman.

According to his story, the Chairman of the PACE has clearly noted "that even if one person remains under guards, this will be unacceptable for them, and these issues should be transparent."

During the meeting, Lluis Maria de Puig has expressed his concern in connection with the known investigatory assignment issued by the chief of the Special Investigatory Service Andranik Mirzoyan.
