Advocate in Politkovskaya's case reports an attempt to poison her

Karina Moskalenko, advocate in the case of assassinated journalist of "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskaya, says that somebody tried to poison her in Strasbourg. According to the lawyer, pretty much "substance looking like mercury" was found in her car.

"I don't know for how long this substance was in my car, and for how long we breathed in its vapours - we were permanently driving over Strasbourg, where I had to speak at the European Court for Human Rights," said Karina Moskalenko. "I felt bad, all my body swelled up; I started coughing and had to go to hospital. But how much it's connected with poisoning, I also don't know."

The "Gazeta.Ru" reports that Мs Moskalenko will ask the police to establish the character of the substance.

Karina Moskalenko has emphasized that at present she has no idea of who could commit this sort of crime. She assumes that the attempt to poison her has something to do with her participation in Anna Politkovskaya's murder case.

On October 15, she has to be present at the Military Court at preliminary hearing. Karina Moskalenko is not sure that she will be able to appear at the judicial session, since her children, who have also suffered, need her help, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports.
