Aseev: human rights activists concerned of "spy scare" in South Ossetia

More and more persons in South Ossetia have been recently accused of treason. However, according to Vissarion Aseev, a public figure and human rights activist from North Ossetia, none of these cases has been brought to the court.

Thus, recently, KGB Major Timur Guchmazov was arrested on treason accusation in South Ossetia.

"The only thing I know about Timur Guchmazov is that he isn't supported by the public of his homeland. I think that this is exclusively the matter of special agencies," said Mr Aseev.

The "Caucasian Knot" earlier presented two parts of the video interview on the arrest of Kozaev brothers, who had been arrested in South Ossetia after their conflict with President Eduard Kokoity.

According to the human rights activist, the arrest of Kozaev brothers caused bewilderment in people. "For many people it was not clear and was condemned by the public opinion. Nobody in the republic has ever doubted that the Kozaev brothers are patriots of their homeland, unable to make treachery; more than once they proved their fidelity to the Ossetian people," said Mr Aseev and added that this was one of the reasons why the Kozaev brothers were released.

"Apart from the problem with arrests, now South Ossetia has another one - dissatisfied people, 'burnt down people', who lost their houses and now live in tents, without any humanitarian aid, which arrives to South Ossetia in thousand tons," Mr Aseev asserts.

On November 9, the capital of South Ossetia hosted a silent action against what happens in the city. "Some 50 persons rallied in the central square. Those who were disseminating leaflets and information about the action were detained by the KGB (State Security Committee) of South Ossetia; then, they were released. The pressure goes up, people are dissatisfied with the passiveness of the government, and, first of all, with the inactivity of the President," Mr Aseev has concluded.
