Tsyganok: attempt on Yamadaev looks like blood feud

It is possible that the attempt on Sulim Yamadaev, former commander of the "Vostok" special battalion of the GRU, Hero of Russia, was has made by "a bald-headed feudist". Anatoly Tsyganok, candidate of military sciences, professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences and head of the centre of military forecasts, told this to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Possibly, the attempter on Sulim Yamadaev was a feudist, since special agencies, when they plan their operations, always predefine not only all the details, but also the way of retreat after the operation. If the murderer acts bald-headedly, without having a clear idea of retreat, he looks like a feudist," said Professor Tsyganok.

He admits that the feudist was ready to die himself but to shoot Sulim Yamadaev dead.

"Under the present situation in Chechnya, we'd say point-blank that feudists, whatever the govt says that we have none of them, exist and will exist for the nearest 20-30 years. There're feudists both in federal structures and in gangster formations," Mr Tsyganok has added.

As to his opinion on last autumn's murder of Ruslan Yamadaev, Sulim's brother, and on the recent attempt on Sulim himself, Professor thinks that the incumbent President of Chechnya "liquidates his foes."

It all happens at the background of all previous conflicts with the "Vostok" battalion, which obeyed directly to the Joint Staff of the Ministry of Defence of Russia and was, according to Mr Tsyganok, the only battalion at real war on militants.

  • Rights defenders treat case of missing Movsar Umarov as typical for Chechnya

The decision of the Grozny court to provide Eset Umarova with the materials of the case of her son Movsar's disappearance gives some hope to his family, but investigators are unlikely to make the hope true. The fate of Chechen residents who disappeared like Umarov often remains unknown, human rights defenders have pointed out.
