Medvedev: CTO regime in Chechnya can be soon lifted
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said on April 2 when speaking at the London School of Economy that the CTO regime in Chechnya can be soon curtailed, although its separate elements will remain.
According to officials of the Chechen MIA, the law enforcers of Chechnya are capable to hold control of the situation in the republic, should the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime is lifted. Besides, Terek Cossacks have expressed their readiness to take the republic's safety under their control after CTO regime cancellation.
"As a whole, the CTO regime can be shortly curtailed, although its certain elements will remain," President of the Russian Federation stated. "It will enable making life in Chechnya more comfortable and civilized," he believes.
However, Dmitri Medvedev emphasized that the situation in the Caucasus is complicated. "We'll keep watching what happens there; should any problems arise, well act quickly and toughly," the "Echo Moskvy" Radio quotes Mr Medvedev as saying.
He reminded that he visited Chechnya not long ago to see the picture himself. "I saw how much they build," he said. "Those who build so much, are internally ready to peaceful life," the ITAR-TASS quotes the President.
