Russia to pay out 130,000 euros for murder of Musaev brothers in Chechnya

The European Court for Human Rights has announced today its verdict on the case of kidnapping and murder of Ali and Umar Musaev, residents of the Chechen village of Gekhi, committed allegedly by Russian militaries. The Internet site of the Court informs that Russia will have to pay out 130,000 euros to Ali's widow and parents of the victims as compensation of moral harm, and also to cover the judicial expenses.

The Strasbourg Judges have unanimously recognized the violation by Russian authorities of Article 2 (right to live), Article 5 (illegal arrest) and Article 13 (right for effective means of legal defence) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in relation to Umar and Ali Musaev, and Article 2 of the ECHR in connection with inefficient investigation into the circumstances of their murder and Article 3 (prohibition of torture) in relation to Umar Musaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that according to the information collected by the human rights organizations "Human Rights Watch" (HRW) and "Memorial," brothers Ali and Umar Musaev were detained and "disappeared" in the morning on August 8, 2000, after a skirmish in the yard of their house in Gekhi village, Urus-Martan District of Chechnya.
