Opposition journalist released in Azerbaijan

Today morning, Khakimeldostu Mekhtiev, the earlier arrested Nakhichevan correspondent of the "Eni Musavat" newspaper, was released.

Rauf Arifoglu, editor-in-chief of the "Eni Musavat" newspaper, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Mr Mekhtiev had been sentenced to administrative punishment in the form of 15-day custody by the decision of the Sharur Court of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR).

Mr Arifoglu has emphasized that today representatives of the US Embassy to Azerbaijan, headed by Adviser Rebecca Neslund, wanted to meet the arrested journalist, however, the latter was no longer in custody. He has thanked human rights activists and international organizations for their assistance in releasing the journalist.
