Armenia: TV Companies are recommended not to cover the actions of the opposition

A number of public journalists' organizations have disseminated a statement, expressing their concern with the situation observed currently in the mass media of Armenia.

Among the authors of the statement are the Yerevan, Vanadzor and Gyumri Press Clubs, the Committee "Defence of Speech," the Helsinki Committee and the Helsinki Civil Initiative.

"We are concerned with manifestations of certain negative and unacceptable tendencies, which have revealed themselves during the last week. In particular, boycott by some media of the work of journalists' clubs engaged in organization of press conferences. We have received disturbing information that the heads of private TV Companies are invited for interviews to different state agencies, where they are insistently advised to ignore actions of certain oppositional politicians. In particular, they are advised not to cover the meeting of the opposition on October 26," the statement notes.

We remind you that a meeting of the opposition is planned for October 26 in Armenia, where the speeches of Stepan Demirchyan and Aram Sarkisyan, leaders of the Popular Party of Armenia and the "Republic" Party, are planned, and also the presentation of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first president of Armenia.
