Main versions of Kerch Strait catastrophes made public

The investigators have announced the main reasons of the numerous ship-wrecks on November 11 in the Kerch Strait. They have found violations in the actions of the captains of the Ports "Kavkaz" and "Rostov", ship owners and captains of the ships that have been destroyed by the nature.

"We already have our main versions and check for violations in the actions of captains of Port "Kavkaz" and Port "Rostov", since the vessel "Nakhichevan" went out into the Kerch Strait from Port "Rostov", said Sergey Boiko, head of the criminalistics department of the South Transport Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee (IC) under the Prosecutor's Office of Russia.

The spokesman of the IC has explained that the main point is whether the lake-class vessel had the right to go to a sea voyage, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The second version of the inspectors assumes the violations admitted directly by the captains of the wrecked ships.

The third version is in violations admitted when assessing the technical condition of the vessels by the ship owners and shipyards, which are responsible for examining the technical status of the vessels and confirming their classes.

According to Sergey Boiko, now the complex of investigatory actions has got beyond the Port "Kavkaz". Certain actions are conducted in Rostov. Besides, all the vessels are established, which were in the water area of the Kerch Strait on November 11, 2007; and there were 43 vessels there.
