Badalov: situation in Ingushetia looks like pre-war one in Chechnya

The situation in recent years in Ingushetia is comparable with the pre-war situation in the 1990s in the neighbouring Chechen Republic. This is the opinion of Ruslan Badalov, Chairman of the Chechen Committee of National Salvation, expressed at the conference on human rights in Russia that was held on June 9-10 in Finland.

"Although Ingushetia has no open wide-scale combat operations with participation of troops and machinery, like it twice happened in the end of the 20th century in the territory of Chechnya, however, by the level of intensity, absence of safety for everybody, except for strictly guarded high-rank officials and their families, by the number of almost everyday terror acts, and victims among civilians and employees of power agencies, Ingushetia today is the hottest point of Northern Caucasus," Mr Badalov said.

While justifying his statement, the human rights activist referred to the recent report of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" named "Ingushetia - 2007. Where Now?" As he said, the facts of violations of human rights in Ingushetia are depicted there in smallest details. They are also confirmed by the materials of the special deputy commission of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia of the previous convocation.
