Rostov Region: prosecutor's office reveals more than two thousand hidden crimes

In the first 6 months of 2008, the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region revealed and registered 2109 crimes not registered before. Out of the total number of such crimes, in 953 cases initiation of criminal cases was unreasonably rejected.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Agnessa Savchenko, senior assistant to the public prosecutor of the Rostov Region, that the prosecutor's office also revealed 136 facts of hiding crimes (in such cases citizens' applications to the militia were not registered).

In total, 643 employees of law-enforcement bodies, including 63 heads of militia divisions, received disciplinary punishments for their committed violations. In the opinion of Sergey Chaplin, Public Prosecutor of the Rostov Region, "in the cause of defence of citizens' rights, there is a direct merit of the Prosecutor's Office."

In the first half of 2008, the criminal situation in the Rostov Region remained complicated: over 49,000 crimes were registered, the count of murders and other grave crimes increased by 10.8%. The growth of the number of thefts continued - by 10.1%. The number of registered crimes related to illegal circulation of drugs was 10.8% higher. Crime exposure rate was 60.6%.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that in 2007 the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region resumed registration of almost four thousand crimes, hidden by militia employees.

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
