Dzhavadly: Herd Bucerius Prize is a support of Azerbaijani free press

According to Natik Dzhavadly, a correspondent of the "Bizim Yol" newspaper, the Herd Bucerius Award granted to workers of Azerbaijani media is a serious support of the advocates of free press in this country.

"I'm of very high opinion of the fact of awarding Azerbaijani journalists with Herd Bucerius Prize, and of the awarding ceremony held in Oslo. Participation of Azerbaijani journalists in the ceremony was another chance to draw the attention of international public to the problems with the freedom of speech in our country," Mr Dzhavadly said after his return from Oslo to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the journalist, encouragement of journalists from Eastern Europe by means of Herd Bucerius Prize and a high level of the awarding ceremony are, first of all, a huge moral support of those journalists who, despite threats and pressure, are fairly performing their professional duty.

Natik Dzhavadly has added that the financial component of the prize is a good help, since, as he said, fair journalists live hard in Azerbaijan.

He plans to use a part of his prize money to pay the debts and repair his health. Besides, he wants to use the money on studying foreign languages.
