Armenia prepares amnesty bill

Gevork Danielyan, Minister of Justice of Armenia, told journalists that within one week, a bill on announcing amnesty will be ready; the amnesty process will last for two months at most.

Rafik Petrosyan, deputy chair of the permanent parliamentary commission of human rights of the National Assembly of Armenia, has noted that the President's machinery has a special group engaged in amnesty issues, which should draft the text of the bill; after signing by the President Serzh Sargsyan, the bill will come for consideration to the parliament.

"It's highly probable that in mid-June an extraordinary session of the National Assembly on amnesty issue will be convoked," said Mr Petrosyan.

The oppositional newspaper "Armenian Time" has reported on June 9 with reference to its sources "within the authorities" that the extraordinary session of the National Assembly will be held on July 5.
