President of South Ossetia to deliver part of his powers to parliament

The President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity has expressed his readiness to deliver some of his powers to the parliament with the aim to strengthen the position of the legislative power and MPs in his republic.

"We should ask more from the government, every minister should feel his or her responsibility not only before the President, but also before the parliament. I plan to coordinate practically all the nominees for the republic's leadership with the parliament," Mr Kokoity said to the MPs of the new convocation.

On May 31, South Ossetia held parliamentary elections, as a result of which three parties were elected to the legislature - Party "Edinstvo" (Unity), Communist Party and People's Party.

The "Interfax" reports that the first sitting of the newly elected parliament of South Ossetia is planned on June 16.
