Peter Gabriel sings a song dedicated to human rights activist Natalia Estemirova murdered in Chechnya

Peter Gabriel, well-known singer from the United Kingdom and former leader of the group Genesis, paid tribute to the memory of Natalia Estemirova, Chechen human rights activist and journalist, while singing on Saturday, July 25, at the musical festival WOMAD in England.

Gabriel dedicated to Estemirova his song "Biko" about Stive Biko, a South Africa fighter against apartheid, who had died of wounds inflicted at the police station in 1977. During the performance, the photograph of the murdered woman was shown at a giant screen above the festival stage, reports the BBC News.

The composer noted that Estemirova had helped to the human rights organization "Witness", which he founded, to shoot two documentary films. The "Caucasian Knot" previously reported about them. These are the film "Crying Sun" about the life of refugees from mountain settlements of Chechnya and the film "Missing Lives. Disappearance and Impunity in North Caucasus".
