Politkovskaya's defence appeals against refusal of the court to return the case to the prosecutor's office

The advocates of Anna Politkovskaya's family have appealed at the Supreme Court of Russia against the decision of the court to return the murder case of the observer of the "Novaya Gazeta" back to the public prosecutor. This was announced today by advocate Anna Stavitskaya, who represents the interests of the journalist's children.

"We've lodged a complaint against the decision to refuse to return the criminal case to the prosecutor's office for merging it with the main criminal case, which tries to establish all the persons involved in the murder," the ITAR-TASS quotes Ms Stavitskaya as saying.

The next stage of the trial - selection of the board of jurymen - is planned for September 7. Till this moment, the Supreme Court shall find time to consider the complaint of the offended party, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan

Ayats (verses) of the Koran, references to which were left by attackers at a synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by the extremists to justify their confrontation with Jews and Christians, Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky point out. The experts suggest that the date of the attack on the Orthodox temple was chosen by the militants because of the Christian holiday celebrated on that day.
