Former Georgian officer gets refugee status in Russia

Alik Bzhaniya, a former officer of the Georgian armed forces was granted the refugee status in Russia. This was reported by Konstantin Poltoranin, head of the PR department of the Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS).

"His petition was considered in the order established by the Russian legislation after some time ago he received a Russian refugee status of the," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Poltoranin as saying.

In May this year, Georgian officer Alik Bzhaniya, 35, crossed the Georgian-Abkhazian border and addressed Russian militaries for political asylum. He explained his act by disagreement with the policy of President Saakashvili.
