Peace prize of Chechen and Russian non-government organizations

The coalition of Chechen and Russian non-government organizations "Yalta Initiative for Peace in Chechnya" is carrying out the action "Peace Prize". Public figures and public organizations working in the field of peacemaking, defending human rights and providing humanitarian aid in the Northern Caucasus can be nominees for the "Prize". The applications are to be hand in by October 15, 2003.

A competition of children's drawings is an inseparable part of the project "Peace Prize". It will be carried out at one time with a selection of the nominees. Schools of different regions of Russia, especially those in the country's south, in Chechnya and Ingushetia, are invited to take part in the competition. Children between the ages of 8 and 14 can be participants in it. The theme of the competition is "Give Peace Back to Us". The works are to be hand in by October 20, 2003.

  • Stand-up comedian from Yeysk accused of insulting SMO fighter

    A criminal case was opened against Artemy Ostanin, a stand-up comedian from the city of Yeysk, after his performance in which he joked about a disabled person who had stepped on a mine.   • Georgian journalist Amaglobeli fined for insulting policeman

    A judge has obliged Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” outlets, to pay a fine within an administrative case of insulting a police officer. At the hearing on the criminal case of the attack on the police officer, the journalist's defence demanded to challenge the judge, but the motion was dismissed.
