Armenian doctors hold charitable actions in Sochi

Surgeons from the medical centre "Erebuni" from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, are in Sochi for their charitable actions. On December 7, at the local children's hospital they made an operation to correct a congenital lip defect to Mikhail Avdzhan, a six-year old Sochi resident. Within the next few days they plan to make three similar surgeries more.

Ara Airapetyan, head of the department of the facial maxillofacial and aesthetic surgery of the "Erebuni", came to Sochi together with the colleagues - surgeon Nora Sukiasyan and anaesthesiologist Sarkis Kaprelyan. They do children's congenital pathology surgeries within the Sochi-Yerevan cooperation programme.

"It's high responsibility," Mr Airapetyan says. "First of all, before the children whom we operate on; secondly, it's an interstate programme; and since I was sent here on me, I have responsibility for the whole Armenia."

The Armenian doctors had prepared well in advance to their work in the Russian resort, having received all the necessary information by E-mail. And still earlier a meeting took place in Yerevan of Elena Pakhomova, wife of the Mayor of Sochi and head of the Sochi-based branch of the Krasnodar charitable organization "Tsvetik-Semitsvetik", with the wife of the Minister of Public Health of Armenia. During their informal meeting, the ladies decided to hold charitable actions.

The free-of-charge help of doctors from Yerevan has allowed saving money and spend it for medical aid to other children. Armenian physicians plan to go on with their initiative of charitable medical aid to Sochi residents.
