Court in Volgograd finds search of home of "Caucasian Knot" correspondent legal

The Volgograd Court of Appeal (CoA) has upheld the court ruling that found the search conducted at the apartment of Vyacheslav Yaschenko, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, as legitimate. The CoA has rejected the defence's arguments.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 18, 2024, policemen searched Mr Yaschenko's home and seized his phone, laptop and storage media. They explained that the search was conducted within the case of Yevgeny Kochegin*, an activist, accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Army. The search was conducted with violations, the advocate has stated.

On June 27, the Volgograd Regional Court upheld the ruling, agreeing that the search at Vyacheslav Yaschenko's home was conducted legally.

Let us remind you that on January 24, 2024, unknown masked men, introducing themselves as "neighbours" and "veterans of the special military operation (SMO)", tried to break down the door to Yaschenko's apartment, after which they turned off the power on the entire house floor. At that moment, only the journalist's wife was at home; and she called the police.
