AI: fate of Ingush native detained in Egypt still unknown
The international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) possesses information that Russia has sent an extradition request to Egypt in relation to Ibragim Mankiev, a native of Ingushetia, because he was slandered by someone under torture. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from Natalia Prilutskaya, an AI employee.
"We have fears that the extradition request was caused by the fact that Mankiev could be slandered by someone who was tortured. It is not known yet, whether Mankiev has faced any official charges," she has added.
Under the available information, the Egyptian authorities reported yesterday that today, on December 10, Ibragim Mankiev's custody expires, and they have to decide on his further fate.
From the moment of his arrest on November 10, the Egyptian authorities keep Ibragim Mankiev isolated from any contacts with the outer world and refuse to give any official information about his whereabouts. The sources of the Amnesty International report that most likely he is kept in the building of the state security service in Alexandria.
