Ingushetia: debaters name safety among top problems
On December 18-19, the project "Peace to the Caucasus", which assumes meetings, discussions and roundtables in the republics of Northern Caucasus, visited Ingushetia.
The idea of the project belongs to Maxim Shevchenko, a journalist at Channel One and a member of the Public Chamber, who is running all the events of the cycle as moderator.
Three meetings were held in the republicin Ordzhonikidzevskaya village and in the cities of Malgobek and Nazran. The meeting in the village took place on December 18 with participation of President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov. The meetings in Malgobek and Nazran were held on the following day.
According to the organizers, every event attracted from 200 to 500 persons, including local authorities, elders, activists of students' associations, teachers and ordinary residents of Ingushetia.
Apart from Maxim Shevchenko, the meetings were moderated by Kaloy Akhilgov, head of the President's press service. The meetings in Ingushetia were attended by Moscow experts, journalists this time: Nadezhda Kevorkova (newspaper "Gazeta"), Ivan Sukhov ("Time of News"), Orkhan Dzhemal ("Russian Newsweek") and Ekaterina Gordienko ("Novaya Gazeta").
According to Kaloy Akhilgov, head of the press service of the President of Ingushetia, "people spoke mainly about the Prigorodny District and arbitrariness of law enforcement bodies and special agencies. It is important that the opinions expressed at the meetings will make the report of the Public Chamber to be presented by Maxim Shevchenko."
Mr Akhilgov has added that nobody had pre-selected the participants by the principle "acceptable-unacceptable"; there was just the aim to give the floor to all the stakeholders. "The meetings were also attended by those considered to be radically-tuned," he said.
Magomed Mutsolgov, a member of the expert's board under Russian Ombudsman, notes that "safety of residents of Ingushetia is at stake; few people agree to speak openly."
"A guy stood up and said, 'The war is on; and the only point is who will win.' He said nothing more. I think for many people present there it was the most remembered phrase, although many reasonable ideas were expressed there," Mr Mutsolgov has noted.
: "Musa Aushev: nothing is known about investigation of Maksharip Aushev's murder", "Natalia Estemirova and Maksharip Aushev posthumously decorated with Russian Ombudsman's medals", "Maksharip Aushev posthumously awarded for human rights activities".

Law enforcers' provocations put gays in Dagestan under additional threat
Gays in Dagestan were in danger even before law enforcers held provocations and raids on them; and after the arrest of the gay blogger Matvei Volodin, threats have grown manifold. However, as noted by rights defenders, law enforcers have no real grounds to open cases against gays under the article on extremism.
