In Dagestan, figurants of the "execution list" may get state protection

Today, Zubair Omarov, inspector of the investigatory committee for especially important cases under the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan, has invited two figurants of the "execution list" and explained that the issue of their status of witnesses under state protection may be solved soon after the New Year holiday.

The inspector's invitees were Isalmagomed Nabiev, a publicist, human rights activist and chairman of the independent trade union of drivers and entrepreneurs of Dagestan, and Ahmednabi Ahmednabiev, a journalist of the Dagestan-based weekly "Novoe Delo" (New Business), as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"I'll consult my higher instance on how to do it. If necessary, I'll write a letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan," said the inspector. He also explained that within the criminal case on dissemination of leaflets, in which anonymous authors threatened to execute well-known Dagestan lawyers, journalists and human rights activists, certain actions were launched.

Earlier, Mr Nabiev said that the respective instances gave no reaction to requests on providing state protection to him and Ahmednabi Ahmednabiev.
