Prosecution asks 10 years for figurant in Politkovskaya's case
The prosecution has demanded to sentence Sergey Hadzhikurbanov, who was acquitted in Anna Politkovskaya's murder case but accused of extorting 350,000 US dollars from the main prosecution's witness in this case, to 10 years of imprisonment.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 20, 2009, a judge of the Moscow District Military Court found, based on jurymen's acquittal, former MIA employee Sergey Hadzhikurbanov and two Makhmudov brothers - Ibragim and Dzhabrail - innocent as to Politkovskaya's murder.
"We ask to recognize Hadzhikurbanov guilty under Article 163 of the Criminal Code "Extortion" and appoint ten years of imprisonment as his punishment," the public prosecutor said today.
In their turn, the defendant's advocates asked for acquittal. The verdict will be announced on February 15, as the ITAR-TASS reports.
