In Vladikavkaz, picketers try drawing attention to "Electrozink" problems

In the capital of North Ossetia, members of the initiative group "Electrozink. What we breathe in?" at the website "Odnoklassniki.Ru" are holding a picket trying to draw public attention to the court decision on suspending the work of the "Electrozink" Factory.

"We want to draw attention to the fact that the decision of the Arbitration Court of Northern Ossetia to suspend the "Electrozink" until the factory creates a full-scale sanitary-protection zone around it, was not enforced, and the factory continues working," said Atsamaz Khadikov, a sanitary inspector.

He said that the factory is still ignoring the sanitary-and-hygienic norms, although the press keeps writing about the improved situation at the enterprise. He added that some media call the protest actions of ecological activists "pre-paid" without naming, however, the source of the money.

Although the picket is held by five persons only, employees of the department for counteracting extremism make video filming of the action.

"Our republic is the poorest in land. More than half of the territory is in mountains. Under European standards, the republic most densely populated. Apart from poisoning the air, vegetation and human lungs, land is the basic trouble. We have data provided by ecologists that the land around 'Electrozink' is poisoned to the depth of 1.6 meters," said Vyacheslav Gamaev, an NGO activist.
