EU welcomed Eduard Shevardnadze's decision to resign office of Georgian President

The European Union welcomed the decision of Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze to resign. The European Commission says in its statement that the decision of the ex-leader of Georgia, which allowed to refrain from violence, "opens the way to restoration of constitutional law and order" in the country. Hope is expressed in the document that developments will give way to democratic elections in Georgia according to international standards. "Georgians need to restore a climate of trust and confidence in their country and their political system," reads the statement.
