Beslan opens sculptural composition "Kind Angel of Peace"

On September 2, in Beslan, in the corner of Mira and Sigova Streets, an architectural-sculptural composition named "Kind Angel of Peace" was opened.

The ceremony was attended by residents and visitors of Beslan, officials and activists of public organizations.

On September 1, 2004, a group of terrorists captured 1128 hostages at a school of the North-Ossetian city of Beslan. The terror act killed 186 children and 148 adults; 728 other residents of Beslan and 55 law enforcers were wounded. When the school building was stormed, 12 special agents and a local resident who helped to free the hostages were killed by bandits.

The new composition, which appeared in Beslan seven years after the tragic events of September 1-3, 2004, is the idea of the International Union of Charitable Organizations "World of Good". The proposed project was supported by 52 donors from all Russian regions. They donated funds for creating the sculpture. Their names are listed on a golden plate placed at the base of the "Angel".

The sculpture of the angel crowns a three-meter high column; the angel keeps a dove in hands. According to the Honoured Artist of Russia Pyotr Stronskiy, Beslan is the thirtieth city in Russia, where the statue of "Kind Angel of Peace" was erected.
