A conference devoted to conflicts in Southern Caucasus will be held in Washington

On September, 15, a conference "Twenty years of independence in Southern Caucasus: achievements and problems" devoted to territorial conflicts in Southern Caucasus will be held in Washington. 

The conference has been organized within the framework of the New European Democracies Project of Washington Center for strategic and international studies (CSIS). Officials and analysts from the USA will take part in it. 

The US policy in Southern Caucasus is among the themes on the agenda of the conference, "Georgia Online" reports.

A number of well-known research scholars in the region: Janusz Bugajski from CSIS, Ariel Cohen from "Heritage" Foundation, Svante Cornell from the Institute of Central Asia and the Caucasus, John Chikki from the Institute of Defense, colonel Robert Hamilton from Army Military College will deliver special reports on the topics.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the conference by Geidar Mirza, analyst of the Council of International Relations, Georgia by Mamuka Tsereteli from "America" Institute and Armenia by Ruben Shugaryan from the University of Armenia, IA APA reports.

  • Law enforcers' provocations put gays in Dagestan under additional threat

    Gays in Dagestan were in danger even before law enforcers held provocations and raids on them; and after the arrest of the gay blogger Matvei Volodin, threats have grown manifold. However, as noted by rights defenders, law enforcers have no real grounds to open cases against gays under the article on extremism.
