Investigation on the case of murder of Ingush human rights activist Maksharip Aushev recommenced

After an appeal of Maksharip Aushev's family and friends to President and Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Chief Directorate of the Investigative Department of Committee of Inquiry of the Russian Federation in Southern and North-Caucasian Federal okrug recommenced investigation of the criminal case on the fact of the Ingush human rights activist's murder.

It should be reminded that Maksharip Aushev perished on October, 25, 2009, when unidentified people fired upon his car from a car passing by in "Caucasus" federal highway. Last October investigation of the case of Aushev's murder was held up "in connection with impossibility of establishing persons liable to calling to account as defendants". The human rights activist's family and friends disagreed with this decision.

The aggrieved appealed to President and Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation stating that the investigative bodies had stopped investigation unlawfully.

According to the attorney of the aggrieved, their party will enter a motion of interrogating a great number of persons whose evidence may provide information significant for the case. It is expected that officials of the Republic of Ingushetia of various levels may be included into the list of persons to interrogate.

Prosecutor General of Russia has taken the case of Maksharip Aushev's murder under his personal supervision.
