Zamira Rakhmanova from Dagestan wins world championship in wrestling

At the World Championships in Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women's Wrestling, held in Turkey, Zamira Rakhmanova, an athlete from Dagestan, has won the gold medal. This is the first Russian gold medal in women's wrestling since 2002.

Zamira Rakhmanova has won her gold medal in Istanbul by defeating Davasukh Otgontsetseg from Mongolia in the final fight. "I went to this success for all my life - this is my third world championship. Last year I was the bronze medallist; and now - finally - I managed to win the gold. At the awarding ceremony, it was a pleasure to listen to the anthem of Russia; my heart was about to jump out of my chest," Zamira said after the awarding ceremony.

President of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov has congratulated the athlete. "Your success is another confirmation of your skills, spirit power, and the high level of the national school of wrestling and commitment to glorious traditions of Russian sports. The republic is proud of you for your outstanding, without exaggeration, success, which will be written down as a new bright page into Russia's sports annals. It is meaningful that you won your Gold Medal - the Russia's first since 2002 - on the eve of the glorious holiday - the Unity Day of Dagestani Nations," the republic's leader has emphasized.
