Representatives of social and political organisations of Abkhazian refugees restart protest action in Tbilisi
Representatives of social and political organisations of Abkhazian refugees restart their protest action in the center of Tbilisi. They demand that Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Tamaz Nadareishvili resign and the members of the Supreme Soviet be reelected.
The action participants suggest holding elections of the refugees' representatives for the Abkhazian Supreme Soviet along with the Georgian parliamentary elections in March of 2004.
The Supreme Soviet of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia has been working in exile in Tbilisi since 1993, after the conflict in Abkhazia, which entailed the de facto withdrawal of the autonomy from under the jurisdiction of the central authorities of Georgia and the declaration of independence by the Abkhazian breakaway leadership.
The authorities of the Abkhazian Supreme Soviet deputies, who were elected before the war in Abkhazia, have been extended for all the last years.
