Policemen in Orenburg suspected of involvement in the death of a detained native of Armenia

Four policemen in Orenburg were detained for suspicion of involvement in the death of native of Armenia Armen Sargsyan in the Directorate of Orenburg Department of the Ministry of interior Affairs.

It should be reminded that Armen Sargsyan died on November, 18, in the operational search unit of municipal Directorate of the Ministry of interior Affairs of Russia. This was reported by representatives of Orenburg branch of inter-district international organization "Committee Against Torture" who declared the victim's possible undergoing torture and their readiness to undertake public inquiry on his death.

According to the enforcement officers, at the moment of interrogation in the police department the man suddenly felt bad and complained of a pain in his heart. The ambulance was called immediately and the physicians certified death suggesting acute heart failure as a supposed cause.

Forensic medical examination of Sargsyan's body revealed criminal origin of his death, web-site of Committee of Inquiry of the Russian Federation in Orenburg region reports. The Committee started criminal proceedings according to part 1, clause 105 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation (murder).

Four officers of Orenburg Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs were detained. The necessary investigative actions are in process on the case under operational support of the personnel of Internal Security Unit of Orenburg Directorate of the Ministry of interior Affairs.

Major General of Police Yefrem Romanov, Chief of Orenburg Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, appointed a staff inspection and took personal control of it, "Interfax" reports referring to regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

A criminal case was initiated on November, 29. On that day members of Orenburg branch of inter-district non-governmental organization "Committee Against Torture" picketed the building of Orenburg Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Russian Federation expressing their protest against escalation of violence in the police. The picket was authorized by the authorities and guarded by a flying squad. Leader of the branch Viacheclav Diundin said that is was for the first time that an action like this was held in front of the windows of regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and encountered no obstacles from the management of law enforcement bodies, web-site of this human rights organization reports.
