At rally Astrakhan opposition announces plans to litigate against election outcomes

Activists of oppositional political parties of Astrakhan have reported to the recent rally against rigged elections to the Russian State Duma that they will file lawsuits in the context of numerous violations committed in the course of the election campaign.

After the rally in Lenin Square, protesters went to the building of the Regional Election Commission (REC): at least 300 people reached the building.

Tamara Kozhevnikova, Secretary of the Astrakhan Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), said that her party was filing four claims to the court.

Oleg Sheyin, the leader of the regional branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, also said about the plans of his branch to sue the election violators, and promised to file lawsuits on Monday, December 26.

The crowd was chanting "Re-elections!" and adopted a resolution calling for the abolition of the State Duma election outcomes. The event ended with chanting the slogan "Russia will be free!"

The action was accompanied by enhanced security measures. Law enforcement officials did not allow the protesters to raise their posters at the REC building. There is at least one detainee – Alexander Kirpichenko, a CPRF activist and journalist of the "Astrakhanskaya Pravda".
