Alexander the Second
Czar of Kakheti since 1574. To strengthen the country's defense, strived to rebuild fortress cities and monasteries. Purchased arms in Moscow, recruited artillerymen and gun makers. Under Alexander the Second's rule, commercial ties of Kakheti with European and Asian countries broadened. Struggled to strengthen the central power. Being interested in a union with Russia, Alexander the Second swore allegiance to the czar Fyodor Ioanovich. Was killed in 1605 by instigation of Iranian shah Abbas.
