Up to 300 houses flooded as a result of downpours in Lagodekh district of Georgia

On May, 12, a downpour inflicted a damage on Lagodekh district (Eastern Georgia). Up to 300 dwelling houses were flooded in the settlements of Apeni, Leliani, Chabukiani and Ananuri.

Fowl and livestock were lost and households injured as a result of the disaster.

According to Gia Gazalishvili, Chairman of Lagodekh municipality, a special committee was created and started calculation of the damage inflicted by the disaster, "Interpress News" reports.

On the whole thousands hectares of vineyards were flooded in Kakheti region part of which is Lagodekh district. Water flows washed away cars into the rivers. Besides, the central highway connecting Gurjaani with Tbilisi was damaged.

As of the evening of May, 13, over 5 000 residents of the district were cut off power, "Georgia Online" reports.

According to weather forecasters, rainy weather will keep in Georgia next week, too. Precipitations will fall in the West of Georgia till May, 16, and even longer in the East. National monitoring and forecast center does not rule out new heavy downpours, PIC TV company reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" informed that a flood caused by the heaviest downpour happened at night of May, 13, in Tbilisi. The Kura that flooded the banks submerged the roadway, turned over cars, dwelling houses were flooded, too. Five persons perished. No less than 30 residents of Tbilisi needed medical aid.
