PFPA leader Ali Kerimli questioned by the police

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was kept for 4.5 hours at the Chief Police Department of Baku and then released, after receiving an oral warning about the inadmissibility of organizing uncoordinated protest actions.

Ali Kerimli was summoned to the Department this morning. The summon did not indicate the reasons. Later, it became known that Ali Kerimli was called to the police in connection with the action, held in the evening on May 25, by the Civil Movement for Democracy "Public Chamber" (CMDPC).

Kerimli came to the police at 11:00 a.m. and was released at about 3:30 p.m., Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, his advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The lawyer said that Kerimli first had a talk with Rafig Abbasov, the head of the Chief Police Department of Baku, and then – with the Baku Public Prosecutor Aziz Seidov.

"They told him that the recent actions of the CMDPC created problems for law enforcement bodies," said the lawyer Mekhtiev.

In his turn, Ali Kerimli said at the meeting, according to the lawyer, that in accordance with the law the CMDPC addresses its notifications about the upcoming rallies to the city Mayoralty; however, the city authorities fail to sanction the actions in the places offered by the opposition.
