13 persons became victims of armed confrontation in Northern Caucasus during the period May, 21, to May, 27

At least 13 persons became victims of armed confrontation in Northern Caucasus during the past week, from May, 21, till May, 27. Nine of them perished and four got wounded. These are the totals of calculation by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

There are three law enforcement officers among those lost: two in Dagestan and one in Ingushetia. Two members of power ministries got wounded in Dagestan. Two civilians were wounded in Chechnya.

It should be taken into consideration that the above mentioned statistics cannot be hundred-per-cent precise concerning the number of victims in the survey of all the specified categories. News reports do not cover all the data. It is not always possible to verify credibility of the statements made by law enforcement bodies.

Assaults at the personnel of law enforcement bodies

On May, 22, unidentified people fired upon a police car in the suburbs of Makhachkala. One of the members of power-wielding structures was killed and three got wounded. One of the wounded officers later died in hospital. One of the lost men is an officer of the Department of Federal Security Service in Dagestan.

A suspect of participation in a paramilitary group (PMG) who put up armed resistance was killed in the evening of May, 24, in Makhachkala. According to law enforcement bodies, an unknown man in Askerhanov street of the capital of Dagestan opened fire at law enforcement officers from firearms and was killed by backfire. There are no victims or injured persons among members of power ministries. The killed man was identified as a resident of Makhachkala born in 1980.

Special operations

On May, 24, law enforcement officers discovered a group of supposed gunmen consisting of three persons between the settlements of Martan-Chu and Tangi-Chu, Urus-Martan district of Chechnya. In reply to the demand of surrender they opened fire and were killed by backfire. Identity of two of them was established. They were Ahmed Mantsaev and Ahmed Saidulaev who according to members of power ministries, had participated in Lorsanov's gunmen group. Identity of the third one is currently being established.

On the same day law enforcement officers killed a gunman who put up armed resistance during an attempt of detention in Achkhoy-Martan District of Chechnya. A participant of a paramilitary group was found during a special operation in several kilometers distance from the settlement of Bamut, near the border with Ingushetia. In response to the demand to lay down arms he opened fire at the policemen and was killed by backfire.

On May, 27, one more supposed gunman was killed in the settlement of Kerla-Yurt, Grozny district, during an attempt of detention. There are no losses among law enforcement personnel. Identity of the killed man was established. According to official data, it was resident of the settlement of Kerla-Yurt Adanan Saparbaev aged 22.

Explosions and acts of terror

On May, 24, a serviceman perished in Sundja district as a result of blasting of an unidentified explosive device. The explosion happened during reconnaissance and search actions carried out by servicemen of Inner Troops of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Russia. The conscript died in hospital.

On May, 24, an explosion of a railroad track was committed by unidentified persons not far from the town of Izerbash, Dagestan. There were no victims or injured people. The railroad track was exploded the moment when a freight train which had not derailed was passing.

An explosive device of small power was activated in the evening of May, 24, in the center of Grozny. It turned out that the bomb was put into a mobile phone a man wearing a military uniform brought to a repair shop. Two persons got injured as a result: a master and the owner of the shop.

Detentions

On May, 22, law enforcement personnel detained a local woman aged 43 suspected of rendering aid to armed underground in the high-mountain Vedeno district of Chechnya. According to law enforcement officers, the woman resident of the settlement of Eshilkhatoy several years ago delivered medicines to participants of paramilitary groups.

On May, 23, a suspect of participation in PMGs was detained by the police in Gudermes district of Chechnya.

On May, 24, the personnel of the Ministry of Interior Affairs detained a thirty-five-years-old man suspected of involvement in the activities of armed underground in Zavodskoy district of Chechnya.

On May, 26, a local resident aged 26 suspected of complicity in the activities of armed underground was detained in Gudermes district of Chechnya.

Kidnapping and disappearances of people

On May, 25, Gaji Mustafaev, resident of the settlement of Krasnoarmeiysk, Kirov district of Makhachkala, was kidnapped and carried away in an unknown direction by camouflaged and masked people. This was reported by the man's father. The personnel of the standby unit of Kirov district of the Department of Interior Affairs of Makhachkala state that they know nothing of the incident.
