Book "Bible and Koran: Parallels" presented in Pyatigorsk

The Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University (PSLU) has held a presentation of the book "Bible and Koran: Parallels". Linguists and experts on Islam have welcomed the book.

The presentation was held on June 1 at the International Scientific-Practical Conference "Formation of Spiritual Space of Today's Russia".

As reported by the Institute for Bible Translation, which has prepared the edition of the book, it was first published in 2005 in 1000 copies.

"The book aroused great interest and was quickly sold out. In early 2012, the Institute received orders from several eparchies, the Synod departments and churches of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. Their requests were financially supported by a Russian benefactor; therefore the book was quickly re-printed in 1500 copies," said a source from the Institute.

According to his story, the book is an attempt to give a Russian-speaking reader a systematic understanding of semantic parallels of the sacred texts of the Christianity and Judaism, united in the Bible, on the one hand, and the Koran – the sacred text of Muslims – on the other.

The book shows that our religions is much closer to each other than we used to think, said Ibragim Ibragimov, the head of the Centre for Arabic Language, Islam and Islamic Culture of the PSLU.
