Suspect of plotting attempt on Putin seeks asylum in Ukraine

The Chechen native Adam Osmaev, the main suspect in the case of plotting an attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin, has filed an application for political asylum in Ukraine.

As reported by the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine, until Osmaev's application is considered by the State Migration Service of Ukraine, the international prohibits his extradition.

Besides, as the UNHCR has added, should Ukraine refuse to grant asylum to Osmaev, he will have a chance to appeal against the decision of the Ukrainian authorities. And all this time, according to the international law, he cannot be extradited, the "Interfax" reports.

As for the second detainee – the Kazakh national Ilya Pyanzin, who is also to be extradited to Russia, so far the UNHCR has no information about whether he sought asylum in Ukraine, the "Glavred" reports.
