Georgian Parliament adopts resolution on priority of integration into EU and NATO

The Parliament of Georgia has passed – by majority of votes – a resolution, under which the country will continue its way towards integration into the EU and NATO and will not have diplomatic relations with the countries that have recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

On March 7, the resolution of 19 points was approved by 96 MPs. The document names the "European and Euro-Atlantic integration" the top priority of the country's foreign policy. It says that Georgia intends to achieve its goals on interaction with its key strategic partners – the USA and the EU, and views this process as the "responsibility before the people of Georgia."

"Georgia will run dialogue with Russia both with the use of international mechanisms in the format of Geneva Talks, and in the bilateral format. The aim of this dialogue is to settle the conflict, and support and development of good neighbourly relations," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the resolution.

The document mentions, among major foreign policy directions, the political dialogue and economic cooperation in the Caucasus, expansion of bilateral relations with Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia, expansion of economic relations with the countries around the Black and the Caspian Seas, of the Middle East and Asia, cooperation with the Baltic States, and deepening of relations with the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia, the "Gazeta.Ru" writes.
