Ryazan Human Rights Coalition carries out action against war in Chechnya
The Ryazan Human Rights Coalition carries out the antiwar campaign titled "How Much?" The Coalition states Russian authorities try to conceal the truth about the Chechen war from citizens by all means. Information on losses is crudely falsified; there is no state source providing data on budget funds spent on the war.
The first stage of the "How Much?" campaign was a large-scale action to post leaflets; the next stage will be the distribution of application forms among Ryazan residents with argued requests to government bodies about losses among Russian servicemen and financial expenditure on military operations. All the requests are drew up in conformity with the legislation of the Russian Federation on applications to government bodies therefore the latter will have to reply to each of them in a period of time set by the law, regardless of the number of requests they will receive," reads a press release by the Ryazan Human Rights Coalition.
The Coalition was founded in 2003. Its members are the Ryazan human rights society Memorial, the Ryazan Committee of Soldier's Mothers, the Ryazan Human Rights School, and the Sasovo human rights center Choice of Conscience. These organizations advocate the cessation of the second Chechen war. They have conducted joint antiwar actions many times and have taken part in all-Russian campaigns.
