Elections to Board of Elders of Yerevan to be monitored by 6612 local observers

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia has registered 6612 local observers from 26 organizations aiming to monitor the elections to the Board of Elders of Yerevan – by 362 observers more than at the recent presidential election, a source from the CEC told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Among the organizations registered with the CEC to observe the elections are the "Armenian Youth Association", which nominated 1544 observers (the largest number of observers from one organization), the Centre for Economic and Social Law, which will participate in the elections with its 1048 observers, the "Uniform Development of Communities", which has 777 observers in its application. These three organizations did not participate in the presidential election on February 18.

The other observer organizations are taking part in the elections not the first time; the Anti-Corruption Centre "Transparency International", the "Centre for Election Systems" and the Civil Society Institute among them.

The elections to the Board of Elders will by also monitored by 15 observers from international organizations, including a delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, composed of 12 members, and three observers from the Regions Committee of the European Union. Both organizations deal with local self-government issues in the Council of Europe and the European Union.
