Blogger Nilufer Magerramova dies in Azerbaijan
At night on May 7, an opposition activist and blogger Nilufer Magerramova fell down from the balcony of an apartment in the Azerbaijani city of Mingachevir, where she lived with her parents.
The 20-year-old Nilufer Agshin gyzy Magerramova was running a blog on the Wordpress, where she actively criticized the Azerbaijani authorities. In particular, on April 14, she published a critical article entitled "For a civilian and legal state", dedicated to repressions against participants of protest actions and manipulations with the public opinion in the country.
According to the girl's friends, after this post, Nilufer was summoned to the police station and was exposed to physical pressure there. Besides, her parents urged her to stop her oppositional activities, the "Haqqin.az" writes.
Her death was confirmed the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan. The Mingachevir City Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case under the article of "incitement to suicide" (Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan) and holds an inquiry. So far, nothing has been reported by the police about the reasons of the suicide.
Should the version that the girl failed to withstand the pressure from the police and the family and committed suicide be confirmed, it could further increase the activeness of protesting youth, said Gorgud, a blogger of the "Caucasian Knot".
The girl's parents at the time of the tragedy were in the apartment located on the sixth level. They are sure that their daughter died in an accident, the "Vesti.az" reports.
