District head: Gimry residents filed 420 claims on their damage sustained during special operation

In the village of Gimry, Untsukul District of Dagestan, the local hospital does not work; only some of the pupils attend the local school; and villagers prefer not to appear in the streets, local residents report. The authorities, in their turn, assert that life is slowly returning to the normal way; and the commission to assess the damage suffered by locals, has completed its work.

However, some of our readers have reported that after the special operation conducted in Gimry, the hospital and the school did not work. "The school remained closed until yesterday (May 8, - note of the "Caucasian Knot"); the children are afraid to go to school; there was not a single psychologist in Gimry. And about the hospital: after villagers returned home, many of the elderly persons suffered from stress; they were put into the Gimry Hospital. Then, their treatment was interrupted; they were driven out of the hospital; now, it is a barrack housing OMON (riot police) fighters," a reader with nickname mama wrote under one of the news items of the "Caucasian Knot".

Local residents have confirmed this information to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "All the patients were driven out of the local hospital and distributed among other hospitals of the republic. To get high-quality medical care we also have to travel outside the village," said Shamil Magomedov, a Gimry villager.

"Very few pupils go to school; they are afraid of possible incidents with visiting and local policemen, who constantly patrol the streets. Only children of rural officials go to school; they want to demonstrate that everything is OK in the village," said the source.

The village is under a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.; and no outsiders, including journalists, can visit Gimry; a reinforced checkpoint has been deployed at the entrance to the village.

The head of the village Aliaskhab Magomedov has confirmed the closure of the hospital. However, in general, in his estimate, the situation in Gimry is calm.

Shamil Magomedov, the head of the Untsukul District, told the correspondent that the work of the commission to estimate the damage caused to the property of villagers in the course of the special operation has been completed. "We have received 420 applications; 10 households were blown up; 26 others were seriously damaged. We work with each person, trying to help people to the maximum extent," said the head of the district.
