Protestor detained in Georgia for shouting against president

In Georgia, the meeting of President Mikhail Saakashvili with students at the Tbilisi State University (TSU) named after Ivane Djavakhishvili was held against the background of protests. One of the protesters - Revaz Revazishvili - was detained by the police for insulting shouts addressed to the head of Georgia.

The meeting of President of Georgia with the TSU students was held closed for the media; and a protest action was held at the main entrance during in parallel to the meeting.

The protest was organized by public activists, including former political prisoners, as well as by the students who failed to pass registration for the meeting with the president, "Echo Moskvy" reports.

"We are here in order to try using at least a megaphone to ask questions that we have in plenty to Saakashvili, while it is still considered to be the president," the "Interfax" quotes Melor Vachnadze, a student and a former political prisoner, as saying.

In his turn, Revaz Revazishvili, another former political prisoner, who was released under the amnesty, was detained for shouting against Mikhail Saakashvili, the TV Company "Rustavi-2" reports.

According to preliminary information, Revazishvili has been charged with disorderly conduct, and the Tbilisi City Court will make a decision on his administrative punishment later today.
