In Stavropol Territory, ex-Mayor of Lermontov prosecuted

Alexander Dunaev, ex-Mayor of the city of Lermontov of the Stavropol Territory, is suspected of attempting to discredit the election of the City Mayor and interfere with work of the election commission, and he faces up to four years of imprisonment. This was reported by the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2011, the court found the Lermontov City Council illegitimate after the statement of some deputies of the Council on their resignation to protest against the policy of Alexander Dunaev. On June 17, 2012, the city of Lermontov held early election, after which the City Council elected Igor Bukhlaev to be the City Mayor.

According to the investigators' information, after his dismissal, Alexander Dunaev initiated a series of actions to impede the work of the Interim Election Commission (IEC). In particular, in May 2012, he initiated a hunger strike at the administration of the municipality "that led to the destabilization of the situation in the city". This was reported today by the website of the Investigatory Department of the ICRF in the Stavropol Territory.

Meanwhile, the ICRF also claims that the suspect attempted to interfere with the work of the IEC by ignoring consideration of the complaint of candidates for City Council and calling the police to detain the chairman of the IEC. Besides, according to the investigators' version, with the help of a security guard, Alexander Dunaev attempted to disrupt the meeting of the VIC by closing the administration premises and disconnecting the electrical panel.
