HRC "Memorial": advocate not allowed to visit Makhach Gamzatov detained in Dagestan
Makhach Gamzatov, a resident of Buynaksk, who was arrested in Makhachkala on May 15 on charges of aiding and abetting illegal armed formations (IAFs), is not allowed to be visited by an advocate. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
According to the information of the HRC "Memorial", in particular, the pre-trial restriction measure for Makhach Gamzatov was chosen in the form of detention in custody until July 1, 2013. He is charged under Part 5 of Article 33 (complicity in a crime) and Part 2 of Article 208 (aiding and abetting illegal armed formations) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
On May 15, Murad Magomedov, the advocate under agreement, came to the IVS (temporary detention facility), where Makhach Gamzatov was kept, to meet him; however, the defender was not allowed to visit his client. This was reported on May 16 by the website of the HRC "Memorial". On that day, according to the advocate's story, he saw his client at the Court of the Soviet District: Murad Magomedov noticed bruises on the Makhach Gamzatov's face and signs of blood on his trousers, the HRC "Memorial" reports.
The message of the HRC "Memorial" states that yesterday, on May 16, the advocate again attempted to meet his client; however, he was again not allowed to visit his client: staff members of the IVS said that Makhach Gamzatov was not there. "However, the Chief of the IVS, whom the advocate phoned, acknowledged that Makhach Gamzatov had been and was kept at the IVS and explained the non-admission of the advocate by the quarantine introduced at the IVS," the HRC "Memorial" emphasizes.
