Gasanov arrested for two months

A resident of Buynaksk Gadjimurad Gasanov, whose kidnapping was earlier reported by eyewitnesses, was arrested for two months at the request of the investigating authorities of Dagestan on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. His relatives state the presence of traces of beatings on his body.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by one of Gasanov's relatives that on May 19 the Soviet District Curt of Makhachkala ruled to arrest the detainee at the request of the investigating authorities. The court ruled to arrest Gasanov for two months, the source said.

According to his story, the relatives who were present at the trial could see the traces of beatings on Gadjimurad Gasanov's body. So far, the relatives have not hired a lawyer to defend Gasanov's interests. "At the trial, his interests were represented by the state advocate Madina Lukmanova," said the above source.

The lawyer Lukmanova was unavailable for comments.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source from the GOVD (City Interior Division) of Buynaksk that Gadjimurad Gasanov was detained under Article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code (Illegal possession of firearms) and is now checked for his belonging to the members of the illegal armed formations, who attacked a police car on April 30.
